A message from Scott
Holbrook -ARD Director and PIP Event "emcee".
" I’m not quite positive, but I
think this year will be Party in the Park (PIP) #10, and
what fun we have had getting here. For those who have
not attended before, Party in the Park is an event that
was designed for families and friends to come together,
enjoy a great park, great times & as always the focus
has been GREAT MUSIC! I am so thrilled that all the
pieces of the puzzle came together this year to be able
to share the incredible music and show that only the
Waybacks can bring".
The Waybacks music is about as easy
explain as describing the Yosemite Valley to someone
over the phone, you just can’t do it. Think Charlie
Parker meets Woody Guthrie meets Jerry Garcia meets
Jimmy Page, then while you are at it, throw in some
Vassar Clements, David Grisman and just maybe you begin
to get the idea. The following excerpt from an article
in a recent copy of Guitar Player magazine, gives
another insight to the music & attitude of the Waybacks:
“I didn’t get seriously into playing the
acoustic guitar until I founded the Waybacks in 1999,”
says James Nash. “Before that, I thought the acoustic
guitar was something you played on a radio station when
you couldn’t play electric.” No simple strummer, a
typical Waybacks show finds the rampantly eclectic
guitarist and singer doing a fiddle tune followed by a
Led Zeppelin classic followed by a Django-style jazz
number. This might be a liability in the pop world, but
it is an asset on the jam band festival circuit, where
the
San Francisco
Bay Area-based band’s brand of stylistically diverse music
thrives.”

While music is the focus of Party in the Park, it is far
from the only reason to come. At Party in the Park, the
Auburn Recreation District and the rest of our hosts
want to ensure all who come have a great time. Parents
can allow their children to play in the kid’s zone which
features a variety of fun activities for children of all
ages, our famous “PIP
BBQ Pit & Beer Garden”
is not to be missed. If you have not enjoyed a PIP
Tri-Tip Sandwich, well you are depriving yourself of one
of the Sierra Foothills greatest culinary delights.
But, Tri-Tip is just one of the many great offerings,
from Hot-Dogs to home made Ice Cream Treats, PIP offers
something for all tastes (yes Vegan’s you are covered
too!), of course cold beverages are on tap too. While
you can bring you own picnic – we hope you will choose
to support the cause, and leave the cooking to our great
hosts who in turn help keep PIP Free, not to mention
raising some funds for some great charitable endeavors.
In between sets, you can also peruse our fun craft and
information bazaar.
Mark your calendars, and plan to have a great evening of
fun & incredible music. Come early and beat the
traffic, this is one of the Auburn Rec. District’s
biggest parks, heck come and play a round on Northern
California’s best Frisbee Golf Course! I look forward to
seeing you all, and after all is said and done, I hope
our Party in the Park will go a long way to ensure we
all are able to be able to….
Keep Smilin’
