Let the Good Times Roll - or as the Louisiana Acadians
say it "Laissez les
bons temps rouler", and
that is what we have in store for all who come to enjoy
this years party! While Zydeco is no stranger to Party
in the Park, with the likes of Mumbo Gumbo, Great
American Taxi & the Bob Woods Band all bringing music
heavily influenced and reflection the Cajun sound, this
year we are going "all in".
Lisa
Haley & the Zydecats have been thrilling crowds across
the continent and across the pond for some time now. But
don't trust me, here is what others have to say: "...enormous
fun... makes people want to get up and enjoy!" - Sir
George Martin (Beatles' producer), "The "Mick Jagger" of
Zydeco - Swamp-Rock ala Bonnie Raitt and Lucinda
Williams" Jake Bacon, KUCI Radio, ".... Such energy that
the rosin was floating off her bow like snow."
- Pa Scenen, Lund, Sweden concert review, "That girl
plays as good as a man!" - Clifton Chenier, "The King of
Zydeco". Yes indeed Lisa will be fillin' the Regional
Park Amphetheatre with sounds I know will pack Auburns
biggest - all grass - dance floor swayin' & dancin'!
Alas, Lisa will not be the only one bringing the sounds
of the Louisiana Bayou. Mark St. Mary will be kicking
off the fun, with his roots Blues/Zydeco that will
definitely take us all up the alligator filled swamps.
Mark and his band dig deep into the Zydeco roots, and
will bring that authentic sound like no other in
Northern California Can. Mark has been in high demand
at Cajun fests for years now, and we are extremely
thrilled the stars have lined up to allow for Mark to
come to Auburn this evening. I encourage all to do some
googling on Mark and Lisa - it will indeed be a fun
journey, but live is the best way to enjoy Zydeco &
Regional Park will be the place to be!
Of course music is the star of the evening, but that is
far from all that Party in the Park has to offer, the
Giant Kid Zone will be back in full force and you never
know what fun will be added this year, from Giant
Inflatables to petting Zoo's, ARD's Sheryl Peterson and
her crew always bring out the fun in a big way. Big is
also the case of the PIP Beer Garden and BBQ Pit
- featuring the worlds greatest Tri-Tip Sandwich
prepared by Virgil and the rest of the Rotary gang,
Margaritaville will be returning, Cheri's homemade
icecream, hot dogs, catfsh+++ and I have a sneak preview
on a new vendor sure to please. While guests are free
to bring their own picnic, I hope you will help support
these vendors - not only do they help support the party,
there is a lot of funds raised for local charitable
endeavors!
Circle the calendar, dig out
the beads & get out the purple, gold and green gear and
get ready to Zydeco down! I for one can't wait! I hope
to see you all there, in the mean time......
Keep Smilin' - Scott
